How to use Litanies in Prayer
Litanies are especially suited to group prayer, since they usually have a simple response which anybody can remember, such as "pray for us" or "have mercy on us." The leader should tell the rest of the group what this response is, before starting the litany. When praying as a group, you can also pass the book from person to person, and have each one recite an invocation, with the rest of the group answering the response.
Each litany, whether it’s directed to Jesus, the Blessed Mother, or a saint, is a beautiful meditation. If you’re having trouble praying or meditating, and you don’t seem to know where to start, you could read a couple of the invocations from your favourite litany and meditate on them, using them to get ideas for prayer. Perhaps you could even recite a litany in the morning, choosing a different one every day, and pick two or three invocations from the litany to say at various times during the day, whenever you think of it.
